CARDIOPROTECTIVE PROPERTIES OF VIRGIN COCONUT OIL IN RATS EXPOSED TO CIGARETTE SMOKE

Abstract

Para peneliti telah menghubungkan antioksidan dalam minyak kelapa murni (VCO) dengan peningkatan kesehatan; meskipun demikian, kemampuan kardioprotektif dan antioksidan VCO terhadap stres oksidatif yang disebabkan oleh kebiasaan merokok masih belum banyak dieksplorasi. Penelitian ini meneliti mengenai efek kardioprotektif dan antioksidan VCO dalam kaitannya dengan kerusakan jaringan jantung. Tikus Wistar jantan yang berjumlah 24 ekor dibagi menjadi empat kelompok: Kelompok 1 (kelompok kontrol) menerima pelet tikus; Kelompok 2 (kelompok kontrol positif) diberi diet dasar dan dipapar asap rokok; Kelompok 3 diberi asap rokok bersama dengan 0,45 ml VCO; Kelompok 4 diberi asap rokok ditambah 0,9 ml VCO. Analisis histologis jaringan jantung dilakukan setelah 28 hari pengobatan. Kelompok 2 menunjukkan tingkat kariolisis yang paling menonjol. Secara bersamaan, hasil dari kelompok pengobatan 3, menunjukkan sedikit kerusakan pada miosit jantung. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa menghirup asap rokok dapat membahayakan jantung dan menegaskan efek kardioprotektif VCO terhadap kerusakan miokardium akibat asap rokok melalui pengurangan stres oksidatif.
